OneSource Introduces XBRL Financials for the AppLink SDK
3/31/2003
CONCORD, MASS--March 31, 2003--OneSource Information Services, Inc. (Nasdaq: ONES), a leading provider of business information solutions, today announced support for eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) through the OneSource(R) AppLink(SM) software development kit (SDK). Using XBRL via the AppLink SDK, OneSource customers can access updated, fielded financial data on more than 28,000 global public companies from the OneSource enhanced information warehouse, and seamlessly integrate that data into standard business and custom financial applications. With the ability to provide five years of history on over 90 financial variables, reports and calculated variables via XBRL, OneSource now offers extensive support for this XML standard.
XBRL financials for the AppLink SDK offers OneSource customers the ability to integrate fielded OneSource financial content into standard business applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) systems, enterprise information portals (EIP), and corporate intranets, as well as custom applications such as comparables models, ROI models, and financial analysis tools. Additional OneSource enhanced information including news, rich corporate profiles, executive biographies and comprehensive industry data can also be integrated using the AppLink SDK. The look and feel of applications is maintained, and the OneSource enhanced information can be refreshed as required.
OneSource customers using XBRL financials for the AppLink SDK can then perform sophisticated cross-company and cross-industry analyses through these business applications. OneSource provides more variables via XBRL than any other vendor, including calculated variables such as: total sales per employee, net income per employee, and total debt to total capitalization. Several standard reports are also available for query directly through XBRL, including balance sheets, income statements, statements of cash flows, and ratio reports.
"OneSource''s support of XBRL with the AppLink SDK is significant in driving wider acceptance of this standard," said Rob Blake, group program manager at Microsoft, and chair of the US Domain Group for XBRL International. "OneSource is demonstrating a clear vision of how external financial information can be integrated simply, accurately, and flexibly within a broad range of applications, and they are offering their customers the tools and broad content to deliver on that vision."
Unlike competitive offerings that only allow document-level access to XBRL data, XBRL financials for the AppLink SDK also includes Web services functionality that enables business applications to query individual variables within an XBRL document. This gives developers greater flexibility to programmatically access the exact data elements that are required for an application, and to more easily modify applications to include different financial data.
"The seamless integration of data throughout the enterprise continues to be one of the top priorities for CIOs as they look for ways to increase employee productivity, drive increased use of existing IT investments and improve client service," said Susan Funke, program manager, Content Management and Retrieval Software at IDC. "OneSource continues to provide new ways for customers to achieve these goals through solutions that support the latest standards and specifications, and by providing a flexible and open framework for business information integration."
"Our number one goal is to provide customers with the technology, services and support they need to maximize their productivity from both external and internal business information," said Patti Purcell, senior vice president, Products and Solutions at OneSource. "By leveraging XBRL, AppLink delivers an open and flexible way to integrate and deliver specific financial information into applications that are relevant to the user. Organizations that automate the gathering of financial data and spend more time focused on servicing customers will have more profitable accounts and a distinct competitive advantage in engaging new clients."
In a related release today, OneSource announced that it has joined XBRL International, a not-for-profit consortium of more than 170 companies and agencies worldwide working together to build the XBRL standard and to promote and support its adoption. XBRL is an XML-based, royalty-free, open standard emerging as the de facto global financial reporting platform.
Pricing and Availability
XBRL financials for the Applink SDK is available immediately to all AppLink SDK customers. Access to the OneSource enhanced information warehouse is priced on a per-user basis. The AppLink SDK is priced starting at $10,000.
