Camino Nuevo Charter Academy was founded in 2000 by Pueblo Nuevo Development, which is nonprofit community development corporation in Los Angeles. It offers a preschool program, and has two schools serving students in grades kindergarten through eight. The academy also has a high school, and enrolls more than 1,200 students. It has an extensive curriculum, and its extracurricular activities include art and music classes, and dance. Its teachers are trained to align curriculum and instruction with California state standards. The academy offers parenting programs that enable parents to support their children's learning, and after school enrichment programs at all campuses. The academy has a fully equipped library, and also provides meals. It has partnered with P.S. ARTS to provide art education programs to schools, primarily serving children below national poverty level, and with Los Angeles Child Development Center to offer school-based counseling programs.
