    Bird man fined over pesticides in his home The Journal Newcastle England A PIGEON fancier from the North East has been fined PS200 for illegally storing and possessing a banned pesticidePaul Unsworth 49 pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to possessing the banned substance carbofuran following a search of his home by police in February last year He was charged with three offences under the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 and was fined PS200Unsworth was one of four pigeon fanciers who were visited simultaneously in an operation which ranged from the North East through the Midlands South Wales and the South West Officers from four police forces accompanied by staff from the RSPB and Natural England executed a number of search warrantsThe operation named Bluehawk was initiated to investigate the alleged killing of birds of prey.
