    April 10-- State regulators are deciding whether to fine a farm near the Wilson County line that spilled 1,000 gallons of hog waste into a Contentnea Creek tributary last month. The N.C. Division of Water Quality is considering a recommendation for a civil penalty, according to a March 21 letter the agency sent to Stantonsburg Farm operators.

    April 03-- STANTONSBURG-- Don Webb of Wilson County used to own 4,000 hogs in Northampton and Hertford counties. In the late 1980 s, he bought a fish camp, now called Lake Wylie, that was in operation as a recreational center for years prior. The camp has about a dozen lakes, including Lake Wylie and Lake Irene, named after Webb's parents.

    March 26-- STANTONSBURG-- Ever since a hog farm set up operations in Greene County in March 1991, the Joyner family across the road has been living with the stench and slimy waterway that wraps around their property. Stantonsburg Farm, owned by Murphy Family Ventures, received a notice of violation Thursday for a spill the farm says occurred March 15.
